Proof that uSell Buyers Will Not Scam You

At uSell, we pride ourselves on bringing our users an easy-to-use, trustworthy service. When you sell your cell phone, camera, tablet, or mp3 player on our website, you know that you are not going to get scammed. We have always maintained that the buyers that we list on our site are reputable and trustworthy. For this blog post, we have decided to expose some of our data to you to prove it.

By looking at a recent list of nearly 2,000 transactions that have been completed through our site over a 30-day period, we were able to draw some very encouraging conclusions.

Overall, uSell.com’s partners pay out over 90% of the amount quoted on our site.

Some quotes might be revised up a dollar or two while others are revised down, but for the most part, our users are paid what they are quoted. This is great news, and validates a lot of what we have been trying to do.

Over the last 30 days, users have quoted $118,000 for their devices. And our partners have paid out $108,000 for the devices they’ve received against that quoted amount.

It makes sense that not all transactions would be paid at exactly the quoted price, since it is possible that sometimes customers are paid more than what they’re quoted and sometimes less. The condition of the device contributes to the final payment price, and it’s human nature sometimes to overstate the quality of the device in question in order to get the highest price. And sometimes users send in a device that isn’t the same one they quoted on our site.

In addition, our customers clearly feel that the amount they were paid was fair. A sample of the most recent partner reviews provided by customers who sold their phones through uSell.com shows that 79% of customers who reviewed our partners’ services give our partners a 4- or 5-star rating.

So don’t stress when you sell your cell on uSell. You are going to get a fair price and you are not going to get scammed.

Woe Is Me! Cell phones and Electronics Really Do Lose Value Every Day

Drat. Darn. Shoot. GRA!

Between a weekend getaway and the potential hurricane bearing down, I just didn’t find the time to finalize my quote and send in all the used gadgets I was going to sell.

I came back online today, and alas!

  • PS3 Slim, 160 GB HDD: Would have gotten: $76. NOW $70
  • xBox 360 60 GB: Would have gotten: $59. NOW $43
  • Canon G3 Camera: Last week $5. NOW $5.
  • iPod Touch, 3rd Gen, 32 GB: Would have gotten $76. Now $74
  • iPad 32GB WiFi + 3G: Last week: $255. NOW $247

So two weeks ago, all this stuff was worth $471. Today it’s worth $439. My inaction cost me 32 bucks! I guess it’s true. Used electronics really do lose value every day.

Don’t make this mistake! Go to uSell.com now and find out how much your used electronics and cell phones are worth. Even if you’re not ready to pack up your stuff just yet, make sure to complete our partners’ online forms and request a shipping label. In most cases, this will lock in today’s price for at least 10 days and, in some cases, up to 30 days!

OK, Money. Where Are You Hiding?

Let me preface this post by saying that organization is not my strong suit. Or rather, clutter is my weakness. I mean, I’m not going to be featured on any cable shows about hoarders any time soon, but I’m not likely to be posting up signs for a yard sale this weekend, either.

So when I came to work for uSell, and I learned you could sell used cell phones and electronics for cash, I was pretty stoked. This, I thought, I can do.

It’s not like it requires lifting particularly heavy objects, parting with precious baby things (hey … I might have another one) or otherwise surgically removing large chunks of my weekend.

All I have to do is find stuff I don’t want, go online (which I do with great regularity … thanks a lot, Facebook), and pack up a box.

I can do this.

Phase 1: Denial

But first, I have to go through my junk drawer. (Should this be plural? Yes. It should.) And I need to look at all those boxes we took out of storage and plonked in the spare room. And go through the cabinets in the office. And … well, you get the picture.

So in between grand plans to put a home gym in the spare room; visions of baking homemade, elaborately decorated cupcakes for my daughter’s school; doing some actual work; and even (gasp!) cleaning the house, I fantasized about getting money for all the used electronics I have … just. sitting. around.

What would I do with all that extra dough? A treadmill for the home gym? A guest spot on Top Chef Just Desserts? A new laptop? A cleaning lady?

You will note that I have not, at this stage, actually gone through and gathered up any of the items that will contribute to the fulfillment of my dream. Because I am … just. sitting. around.

I did, however, mentally catalog all my stuff — and I did go online and price it all out. As of today, my used electronics (whereabouts generally unknown) are valued as follows:

  • PS3 Slim, 160 GB HDD: $76
  • xBox 360 60 GB:$59
  • Canon G3 Camera:$5
  • iPod Touch, 3rd Gen, 32 GB: $76
  • iPad 32GB WiFi + 3G: $255

That’s a total of $471. That’s pretty motivating! I also have some odds and ends that will need to be recycled. I will get right on this!

I just want to check Facebook first.

Tune in next time for the continuing saga and “Phase 2: Anger.”
