AT&T Fall Phone Releases: Blackberry, HTC and More!

AT&T is going to serve gingerbread with a side of mangos and blackberries this fall. The image below shows AT&T’s 3rd and 4th quarter phone release roadmap:  six Androids, two Windows Phone 7s and two Blackberries will be gracing AT&T’s airwaves this year.

The codenames have really weird model names that (hopefully) are subject to change. Perhaps the best indicator of the superphones that will be unveiled is the RAM. Anything over 1GB of RAM is considered the minimum for a superphone. 512MB of RAM now power middle of the road phones.

One of Samsung’s superphones in the roadmap is the soon to be released Galaxy S 2. The other could be a slider version of the S2.

Other than the iPhone 5 expected to be released in October, it looks like AT&T is loading up on middle-tier phones.

Look Cool and Stay Green with this Retro iPhone Case

There are so many reasons why I dig this Wood Camera iPhone 4 Case, brought to my attention by TrendHunter.

Reason 1: It’s GREEN.

The case is made out of sustainable materials like bamboo and walnut.

Reason 2: It makes me look cool.

Let’s face it- everyone has either an iPhone or a Droid these days, but very few have a Wooden Camera.

Reason 3: It’s retro

Given the fact that technology has taken over our lives, it is nice to pretend we still live in a time when we had to have our film developed.

Reason 4: It’s wooden

With all the hype that was given to the Retinal Display on the iPhone 4, it is ironic that its biggest feature is that it shatters when you touch it (maybe a slight exaggeration). A wooden cover may solve this problem.

So, if you happen to own an iPhone 4, I would strongly recommend that you look into one of these covers.  And if people still don’t think that you care about the environment, or that you are cool, or that you are retro, or if your iPhone still shatters, I have another solution for you: sell it on uSell.com and go buy something else :)

Boot to Gecko: Mozilla’s love child

Mozilla, the masters behind our favorite web browser, Firefox, has just announced that they are working on a new operating system for mobile phones and tablets, aptly named “Boot to Gecko”.

Yes, ANOTHER mobile operating system!

Wasn’t the tech blogosphere already up in arms over Android’s fragmentation? Let’s not forget the whole Nokia fiasco with Symbian and ditching it for Windows 7 because they couldn’t build an ecosystem fast enough for MeeGo to survive. And remember Lenovo’s Skylight OS?

According to Mozilla, the new operating system will borrow code from the lower levels of Android for hardware enablement purposes. It will build the application stack and user interface around Gecko, Firefox’s HTML rendering engine.

The purpose is to build an operating system that doesn’t use single-vendor application development stacks, rather harness the open Web’s robustness ‘a la Google Chrome.

It looks like Mozilla is looking to pick a fight with Google’s Chrome OS while using Chrome’s big brother, Android, to pin him down.

But the question still remains: Will manufacturers flock to Mozilla and snatch up their Google Chrome and Android love child, or will it go the way of MeeGo and Skylight?

What do you think?
