The Battle of Superphone Supremacy: Verizon Wireless’ Motorola Droid Bionic vs. Samsung Galaxy S II

Verizon was in quite a pickle when Motorola delayed the release of the Droid Bionic after “working on some new updates.” It didn’t help that just weeks after Motorola tweeted that the phone was slated for a summer release, a leaked Best Buy flyer started circulating the Internet, revealing the final design to us mere mortals.

”"

After all the speculation, drama and delays, it FINALLY looks like the Droid Bionic will be released sometime in August. That’s great news for Motorola, and it’s great for Verizon customers, who will finally have the option of buying a superphone capable of fending off other dual-core “4G” super villains from AT&T, Sprint and T-Mobile (BTW, what will AT&T and T-Mobile call their planned LTE network, 6G???).

But how will it fare against the Samsung Galaxy S II beast that has been awing fans in Europe and Asia, and which is now slated to be released to Verizon customers within weeks of the Bionic?

The two superphones will most likely be priced the same, and most industry insiders believe the Bionic will resemble the Samsung Galaxy S II — although the specs are still fairly hush-hush.

So if raw power is essentially the same, and the price is the same, what differentiates them enough to allow Verizon customers to choose between them? Which one is better? Does it come down to looks: Bionic’s big and brutish design versus Galaxy S II’s (allegedly copied from iPhone) thin industrial design?

Or will it be the Droid Bionic’s blazing fast speed on Verizon’s LTE network — the fastest cellular network in the U.S. — versus the Samsung’s slower 3G?

Check out our specs below to decide for yourself, but I’ll take the big brutish one, please!
